About Us
On March 24, 1986, Phil (aka PJ) completed one of his lifelong dreams when he opened PJ's Deli in Newton, IA.  From the original location in the back of the Courthouse Mall building on the southeast corner of the square, PJ's Deli has served its customers with Phil's mantra "Great Food, Great Service, at a Great Price."
Customized sandwiches, homemade soups and desserts, and occasional specials have always been the rule.  But we are always looking to find new favorites for our customers.  We dabbled in ice cream and cheesecakes.  One day, Phil decided to make a homemade dill spread for sandwiches.  A customer asked for it on the side to use as a chip dip and just like that, our famous dill dip was born.
On April 6, 2010, PJ's Deli moved to the front location in the Courthouse Mall, doubling our seating capacity. Since then, we have expanded our production, expanded our delivery options, and will continue to expand our online presence.
In March, 2021, Cara and Mike, Phil's daughter-in-law and son, took over the business from Phil. Don't worry, Phil is still around and works occasionally when he is not off enjoying his hard-earned retirement.
